david, a close friend of mine from calgary, is a talented artist and musician. check him out!

i thought this would be an excellent opportunity for collaboration; and, for this following piece, i used an excerpt from one of his essays. the left image details the process i took the essay through which included a combination of erasure, babel fish translations and a travesty generator.

the second image is entitled self-centred done in the style of derek beaulieu's flatland: a romance of many dimensions. let's see if you can figure out why.

this next image contains the final poem. the image was created by david and is entitled lucid.

this audio clip includes a reading of the poem over david's song, azurite.

this video is merely the preceding sound clip to another of david's images, sour.

warrenbowen

warren and i took a creative fiction class together in fall 2007.

add him as a friend on facebook now! (or don't... he made me do this for PR. he wants to make it big and thought our class would be the best way to get his name out there.)

this first clip is a reading of the text warren provided me: ocean monogamy (an excerpt)

this is a recording of the process with included erasure, babel fish translation and travesty generator.

this is the final poem.

this is a reading of the final poem.

this is the final poem read over a visualization generated using the dreamlines applet.

thichnhathahn

last semester, while reading czesław miłosz, i came across a beautiful excerpt of writing by the buddhist monk and poet; the passage discussed the theory of interbeing. i have read it in the clip below.

this image contains the poem i generated using thich nhat hahn's interbeing as my source text.

the following clip contains my reading of my poem.

bpNichol

as my favourite poet, i could not possibly pass up another opportunity to "collaborate" with bpNichol. you could say he is my greatest muse.

i used for jesus lunatick as my source text. you can read it in the figure below.

the image behind the text was generated using an applet created by diana lange. the applet produces an abstract, but not arbitrary, visualization when a source text is uploaded into the program. naturally, for this image, the source was for jesus lunatick.

the following image contains my manipriation or appropulation (whichever term you prefer). i used the method of erasure.

the following sound clip is a "remix" of my poem with sound bites from bpNichol's reading of friends as footnotes.

write399finalproject

for my final project, i decided to begin a project of mass appropriation and manipulation.

i have chosen four writers to use as my inspiration: bpNichol, thich nhat hahn, david littlejohns and warren bowen.

hopefully there will be more in the future.
